The Indian powered access market has been growing steadily in recent years and Godrej and Imer International have formulated a long term three phase plan for the Iteco business in India.

Initially Godrej will be responsible for the distribution, sales and service of the product through its network. In phase two of the project it will start to assemble Iteco machines from Semi Knock Down (SKD) kits, eventually leading to full manufacture of Iteco booms and scissor lifts in India.

Martin Connolly of Imer International said: “When these plans come to fruition, Godrej Material Handling will be the only major manufacturer of Powered Access in India. This will enable Godrej/ITECO to offer a more customised product range of reliable Powered access Equipment, to the vast Indian continent, the products will be dual branded as Godrej/ITECO.”

“This is a strategic appointment for us in the Indian continent and with Godrej's strong brand name and large distribution network, it positions us well for future development in India and surrounding countries.”

Godrej was established in 1897, by Ardeshir Godrej, a lawyer-turned-locksmith – inventor. His brother Pirojsha would manufacture his inventions and gradually the business grew into the massive group it is today. Revenues are in excess of $2.5 billion, with seven major business sectors - real estate, consumer goods, industrial engineering, appliances, furniture, security and agricultural products.
