The following is a brief obituary we have received:
Malcolm Cardy was born on Sept. 17, 1944, in Enfield, Middlesex in England to Arthur and Florence Cardy. He attended The Latymer School in Edmonton, and graduated with a BSc Honours degree from the London School of Economics.
His first employment was with Caterpillar, initially at its plant in Glasgow, Scotland, and then in Geneva, Switzerland. It was here that he met Linda Fowler of Northbrook, Illinois who was visiting her sister, Donna, and her brother-in-law, Don, who also worked for Caterpillar.
After a whirlwind romance, Malcolm and Linda married in 1970 in Northbrook. They returned to Europe, where Malcolm continued to work with Caterpillar in Munich, Germany, until 1973. He then moved back to Chicago to join the Smith Tool Company.
10 years later Cardy joined Genie Industries in Seattle, moving to Europe as European sales manager, to set up Genie Europe in the Netherlands. In 1989 he went back to Seattle before returning to Holland in 1995 where he remained until he retired in 2004.
The Cardys then set up home in Missoula where they opened the first Oil and Vinegar store in the United States in the Southgate Mall.
The three Cardy children - Annike born in 1973, Allison in 1977 and Andrew in 1981, all went to the International School in The Hague and graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula.
A celebration of Malcolm Cardy’s life will be held Tuesday, September 14th , at the University Congregational Church on University Avenue, Missoula.
