Abdullah Ali Kanoo 1927 - 2010
Abdullah Ali Kanoo, chief executive of the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group passed away in his sleep at his home in Manama, Bahrain on Sunday morning.
He is survived by wife Mariam, sons Ali and Ahmed and daughters Lamya, Hana and Safia.
He was buried after Asr/afternoon prayers on Sunday in a ceremony that attracted over a thousand mourners, including diplomats and business from all over the region.
Kanoo was one of the Arabian Gulf's most prominent and highly regarded businessmen, the company he chaired was founded in 1890 as a trading company and is now a diversified conglomerate with activities across a wide range of industries, including: shipping, travel, oil and gas, logistics and machinery. The machinery commercial business is the Grove, Bobcat, Hitachi Sumitomo and UpRight/Snorkel distributor and has a tower crane joint venture with Wolffkran.

He was in Dammam, Saudi Arabia on Saturday for the inauguration of Kanoo Terminal Services' high-tech inland container depot.
In addition to his duties at the Kanoo Group he was chairman of the National Bank of Bahrain, and a director of numerous large corporations in the region.
