Crane family tragedy

The managing director of Aachen based crane rental company Wertz - Ulrike Wertz, 43, was shot by her husband Christian von Lüttichau, 64, last Thursday. He then took his own life. The couple had two children.

A cleaner discovered the body and alerted the police on Thursday morning, she also took the couple’s two year old child to safety. von Lüttichau was known to
be hiding in the house. The second child was not in the house at the time.

Police secured the area around the building, while special forces stormed the house, they found the body of Wertz, while her husband was alive but seriously injured having shot himself. He received emergency treatment at the scene but died a short time later. We understand that there was a suicide note.

Wertz is a long established company in the Aachen area, founded in 1921, and runs a fleet of mobile cranes, transport and metal trading.
