Extreme Wind Services specialises in cleaning, inspecting, testing and repairing wind turbine blades

Extreme specialises in the servicing of wind turbines combining a cleaning service with inspection, video analysis and non-destructive testing, including ultrasonic, acoustic and thermography. Resultant blade repair services can also be scheduled by the operator to help prolong the life of the blades.

Skyking supplied Extreme’s first 70 metre platform in 2009 and have worked closely with the company to ensure that the platform can safely accommodate the company’s specialist attachments which clean and inspect the blades. The machine has provided trouble free service during the period.

Extreme has taken delivery of a second WT700

The telescopic boomed WT700 is fitted to an MAN 32 tonne chassis, offering a tailored solution to suit Extreme’s operating requirements. A combination of the height, outreach and the 600kg platform capacity, combined with the large work area provided by an extendable basket has proved ideal for reaching any position on the blades of the wind turbines.

The electronic control system has the ability to memorise a working position and return the basket to that exact spot after moving elsewhere. The console screen provides the operator with all the information needed to remain safe and secure including wind speeds, chassis inclination, platform load, outreach, height, oil levels and temperatures. Fuel level and battery condition are also monitored.

The 70 metre WT700 has proved ideal for blade cleaning and repair

The machine is fitted with a hydraulic powered on-board generator that gives a 230 volts supply to both the platform and at chassis level for electric tools and equipment. The WT700 can be monitored for performance or fault diagnosis remotely by way of the wireless modem.

Skyking, a division of King Highway products was established in 1996 to mount and distribute truck mounted lifts and has developed its application engineering to tailor standard products to specific user needs.
