750 tonne Liebherr for Whyte

Whyte Crane Hire of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland took delivery earlier this year of a 750 tonne capacity LG 1750 lattice boom truck crane for wind turbine installation and heavy-lift contracts in the oil and gas industry.

The LG 1750 joins around 40 cranes in the Whyte fleet, many of them Liebherr All Terrain telescopics, together with specialist cranes with telescoping and extendable crane cabs that work on Whyte’s cargo handling activities.
Whyte Crane Hire provides crane rental and cargo handling services throughout Scotland and northern England from depots in Aberdeen, Ellon, Grangemouth and Montrose.

The LG 1750 combines superstructure, booms and jibs from the LR 1750 crawler crane, mounted on to a completely new and compact eight axle 16x8x16 chassis. Four generously sized, hydraulically folding outriggers make up the cruciform 16 x 16 metre support base and travel with the carrier.

The crane has been supplied with the 8L8HS configuration with 115.5 metres main boom and a six metre heavy fly-jib. An additional SL9D2FB arrangement provides 136 metres of main boom, an 18 metres jib, with 42 metres back mast and a ballast tray for up to 400 tonnes of counterweight.

These features will allow the LG 1750 to lift 120 tonnes at 26 metres radius to a turbine hub height of up to 138 metres. The heavy lift equipment includes Liebherr’ s SDB, SD2B and SLDB configurations.

The LG 1750, as with all new generation Liebherr cranes, is equipped with the latest GSM module technology, providing a direct on-board link between the customer and Liebherr’ s after-sales engineers, both in the UK and the Ehingen manufacturing plant to assist in diagnostics and fault-finding should the need arise.
