Mounted on an 18 tonne two axle Volvo chassis the S36XDT straight telescopic boom lift offers a working height of 36 metres and a maximum outreach of 27 metres. It also has the ability to extend below ground level by up to five metres and shares all the features of the XDT range, including a 700kg platform capacity and full 180 degree platform rotation.

The Bronto will be used for maintenance of lighting and dockside cranes in the Southampton port, replacing an aging Simon S300. Mounted on a two axle Bedford chassis the 32 metre articulated boom is almost 40 years old. The company has offered it up for sale but has also said that it would be happy to donate it to a museum.

Special attention was given during the hand-over training to the variable jacking capabilities of the S36XDT, compared to the out and down ‘A’-frame set up of the S300. Fortunately the trainer being in advanced years had first-hand experience with the S300!
