Whoops! – painting above pedestrians

Spotted in the town of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, UK, a man using a self-propelled boom lift in the street with very little in place to prevent a serious accident or splattering those walking below.

To begin with our man who is painting the front of a commercial building in the Square, owned by the Forebury Estate, has no traffic warnings in place and is operating on a narrow road with double yellow lines indicating that parking is prohibited. Even if passing traffic sees the base machine, the lower boom/riser is protruding out into the traffic lane and likely to hit a higher sided vehicle.

A passing pedestrian was struck my falling paint drops from the man in the platform

While it looks as though a couple of cones have been placed on the pavement, pedestrians are walking beneath the work and we understand that as our correspondent arrived the man in the platform - who has not bothered to wear a harness or lanyard – managed to drip white paint onto the lady passing below in a black dress - a debate ensued.

Definitely one for our Death Wish series from two different aspects…
