Gerrit Slijkhuis 1932 – 2015

Gerrit Slijkhuis the founder managing director of Malmquist Benelux, and a director of Malmquist AB in Sweden has died age 83.

Slijkhuis was one of the founding members of the mastclimber industry and established Malmquist Benelux in 1975 to sell and support the Swedish manufacturer’s mastclimbers in the region, having retired from a career as an officer in the merchant navy.

In total he spent more than 30 years with the Mastclimbing company, becoming a director of the Swedish company Malmquist AB, after taking a 25 percent stake in the business when it was struggling in 1994. His attempts to pull the company back from the brink resulted in him losing quite a bit of money. He retired in 2000 and moved to the Czech Republic.

His funeral service will be held today at 14:00 at the reform church of Herbaijum (Friesland) – viewing from 13:00 and afterwards at the Café Oant Moarn opposite the church.

Slijkhuis wrote a note to friends and family to be published when he died, we publish it below.
