AFI adds to big machine fleet and team

AFI has taken delivery of six new boom lifts and six new scissor lifts from JLG and Holland Lift in a deal worth more than £2 million.

The deliveries include two 125ft 1250 AJP boom lifts, two 135ft 1350 SJP booms, and is topped off by two 150ft 1500SJ booms all from JLG. There are six new scissor lifts, three from JLG and three from Holland Lift, including two 65ft HL220s, one 83ft HL275, and three 53ft JLG 530LRT scissors. This takes the AFI big boom and scissor fleet to more than 80 units.

Managing director Steve Williams said: “The purchase of these machines brings two key benefits for our customers. Firstly it meets an increasing customer demand for larger machines for use in applications such as steelwork and signage erection, high level repair maintenance and new build, and secondly it further ensures that the average age of our hire fleet is only four and a half years. Keeping our fleet modern brings further advantages – for example less than one percent of all the thousands of machines that we hire out experience a breakdown."

The company has also appointed Chris Hartley to help develop its large machine rental business, and Alan Davies to co-ordinate operational aspects. Hartley joined AFI at the beginning of 2016 in sales support. He previously worked in a telesales.

Davies is no stranger to AFI, his last position was as operations controller at the Liverpool depot. Before that he was group transport manager for Height For Hire and began his access career as hire office manager at Nationwide Platforms, before moving to AFI two years later as a depot manager.
