Harness saves electrician's life
A man working on a set of overhead traffic lights in Stamford, Connecticut was saved by his harness and lanyard on Tuesday after a concrete mixer struck the aerial work platform he was working from.
The local police confirmed that the man, 27, escaped serious injury having been catapulted out of the basket at a height of around five metres or so. He was left dangling over the street, before being lowered to safety.
A police officer on the ground had apparently signaled the concrete mixer drive to cross over into the opposite - southbound – lane to avoid the bucket ruck, but as a result of a blind spot from the cab the driver misunderstood the signals and continued through the intersection and hit the platform. Why a barricade or cones had not been deployed instead is anyone’s guess.
The mixer driver was issued with a ticket for failing to obey the signals of a police officer in a construction zone.
