Close Brothers expands sales team

Close Brothers Asset Finance has appointed a new regional sales manager along with a new area sales manager.

Steve Smith has been appointed as regional sales manager having joined the company from Manitou UK, where he has been the aerial work platform product manager for the past four and a half years. He began his access career in 2005 when moved from Netswork - where he was a contracts manager - to the Platform Company where he became an area sales manager. He remained on board after the business was acquired by and merged into Nationwide Access in 2008 to create Nationwide Platforms. In 2009 he moved to Ashbuilt Energy and Environmental as an area sales manager for North East England. In 2010 he was hired by Astley Facades (Northern) as a project manager, moving to Speedy Hire the following year as a regional account manager. In 2013 he joined UK Platforms as a regional account manager, moving to Manitou at the end of 2015.

Steve Smith


Nigel Clayton has been appointed as an area sales manager in the Construction, Waste & Recycling division, covering South Wales, Bristol, & Gloucestershire. He joins the company from Paccar Financial Corporation where he has been regional business manager since 2015. He has worked in the financial sector since 1995 when he joined Sovereign Finance as a regional sales manager. In 2003 he moved to Barclays as a relationship manager, joining Henry Howard Finance as a sales manager at the end of 2009 and eventually leaving for Paccar in 2015.

Sales director Paul Hindle said: “We are in an exciting growth phase and these new hires are a strong indication of our long standing dedication to this key sector. They are experts in their fields and bringing them on board is a continuation of our policy of only hiring people who can speak our customers’ language, which is a key component of our ongoing success.”
