Felbermayr's new Engineered Solutions division

Austrian crane, rigging and heavy moving company Felbermayr has launched an Engineered Solutions division, offering technical solutions for the heavy lift market and has recruited Kees Kompier to head the new division.

Felbermayr has long provided such solutions when requested, usually outsourcing or subcontracted such work to others. Kompier joins the company after an 18 year career with ALE Heavylift - which became part of Mammoet earlier this year - where he was regional director Europe.

Speaking of his new challenge Kompier said: "Felbermayr has an enormous range of equipment in terms of heavy lifting and handling. My goal is to expand the range of possible applications by combining the knowledge of the Felbermayr employees with the existing heavy lifting, access and transport equipment and take Felbermayr forward in matters of heavy installations and assembly."

Kompier, 53, began his career in 1991, as a project engineer with Dutch marine towing, heavy transportation & lifting company Muller Dordrecht, leaving to set up his own boat building operation in 1993, however after three years he moved back to corporate life joining Tech Bureau Visser as office manager. In 1997 he returned to Muller for a couple of years as sales manager before moving on to Europe Lloyd as a senior project manager. In 2001 he joined Brambles Heavy Contracting as sales manager, starting his ALE career the following year when it acquired the Brambles business. Over the next 18 years he held various roles within the company, including director ALE Heavylift Netherlands and regional director Far East & Australia.

He recently worked with Felbermayr as a sub-contractor on the installation of a 2,400 tonne bridge in Bratislava.

He said: “At the time we carried out the job as a subcontractor because Felbermayr lacked the structural engineering know-how for calculating the load distribution on the pontoons. Ultimately, the clients also benefit from this through a reduction in the number of contacts and more efficiency in order processing."
