Barge cranes for Guinea

Chinese’s Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard group has ordered two 100 tonne Konecranes Gottwald Model 8 floating cranes for barges destined for Cosco Shipping Bulk in Guinea, Africa.

Designed for use on the open sea, the Model 8 floating cranes provide a maximum radius of 43 metres and are able to operate at wind speeds of up to 24 metres a second and at maximum wave heights of 2.5 metres. Supplied with a 63 tonne grab attachment, the cranes will be used to transport bauxite from river barges to ocean going vessels off the coast of Guinea, home to the world’s largest reserves of bauxite.

The new cranes will take the number of Konecranes Gottwald barge cranes operating in the region to 12

Jerry Fann, Konecranes port solutions sales director, said: “It’s always a pleasure to receive a repeat order from a satisfied customer. Our technology has proved itself once again under challenging conditions. As the number of Konecranes Gottwald cranes on barge grows around the world, we have consolidated our leading position in this market. Our cranes on barge capabilities have been growing steadily since launching in 2004, and we will continue to improve them as technology develops.”
