German rental company Gerken has taken delivery of a 150 tonne Liebherr LTM 1150-5.4 All Terrain crane, filling the gap between its 100 and 250 tonne units.
The five axle LTM 1150-5.4 is equipped with a 66 metre, seven section main boom. plus, a bi-fold swingaway extension that offsets by up to 40 degrees. A seven metre insert can be added to take the maximum tip height to almost 95 metres and maximum radius to 72 metres. The crane can travel with nine tonnes of counterweight on board within 12 tonne axle loads and 60 tonnes GVW. It also features the Liccon3 control centre and the BSIS (blind spot information system). The company said the crane has already been booked for work involving precast concrete elements, wind turbine maintenance and the construction of overhead power lines.
The new crane all ready to go
Gerken managing director Manfred Drößer said: “When we invest in our rental fleet, we always look at where we can create the greatest added value for our customers. The new 150 tonner means we can more easily meet the strong demand for integrated project solutions in overhead line construction - as well as in other sectors. This step puts us in a stronger position going into the second half of the year, for which we have set ourselves ambitious targets.”
The Gerken rental business was established in 1989, but the company can trace its roots back to 1963 when Manfred Gerken opened a painting business in Düsseldorf. Having become a significant user of aerial lifts on larger painting contracts, he found himself gradually moving into rental and set up the rental company Gerken Arbeitsbühnenvermietung in 1989.
Telehandlers were added in 2014 and more recently the company has moved into cranes with the addition of a 70 tonne Tadano AC 4.070L-1 in 2024. The Gerken fleet is now made up of more than 9,000 aerial work platforms and operates from 40 locations.
