Bernard Hunter goes with Spierings

Scottish rental company Bernard Hunter has placed an order for a four axle electric Spierings SK597-AT4 eLift mobile tower crane, with the deal agreed at Vertikal Days last week.

The SK597-AT4 eLift has a maximum capacity of seven tonnes, a 48 metre jib and compact chassis. The maximum lifting height is 58.1 metres with the jib luffed to 45 degrees, or 27.8 metres with the jib horizontal.

The eLift system allows the crane to plug into a 16 or 32 Amp mains outlet, with the power passing through a Lithium-ion battery ‘PowerPack’ which absorbs the peaks in energy draw down, allowing a connection to a regular outlet without affecting performance. When the power draw is low, the battery pack is recharged. The crane is also equipped with a small diesel engine which can generate the electrical power when a mains outlet is not available.

Established in 1946, Bernard Hunter runs a fleet of mobile cranes ranging from a 12 tonne Böcker truck crane to a 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 AT, as well as four and six axle Spierings mobile self-erecting tower cranes, Maeda spider and mini crawler cranes, tracked carriers, glass handling equipment and telehandlers topped by the 16,000kg/10 metre Manitou MHT-10160. The company also provides in-house operator training.
