The crane blocking Marlborough town centre

The crane, an older Grove AT400 came to a grinding halt alongside the town hall in the lower part of Kingsbury Street at the side of the Town Hall as it made its way from Salisbury Plain to Brize Norton.

A number of pedestrians slipped and fell after getting oil on their shoes while a motorcycle came to grief after picking up the oil on its tyres as it passed the stricken crane.

A fire crew arrived to clean up the oil spill and help recover the crane, at one point it looked as though it might catch fire as some of the oil sprayed onto a hot exhaust manifold.
