Two Wumag WT1000s help Victory

Two of the world’s largest truck mounted platforms were used to inspect and repair HMS Victory, currently the flagship of the Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command as well as a living museum to the Georgian navy.

Built in the 18th Century, HMS Victory is best known as being the flagship of Admiral Nelson in the battle of Trafalgar. Now situated in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyards the ship needs regular inspection and repair work with the rigging and masts constantly proving a challenge due to their height and difficult access.

Two WT 1000s were used primarily for their 36 metre outreach.

UK-based BVT Surface Fleet Support, responsible for the up keep of the ship, chose specialist truck mounted platform rental company AA Access to provide an access solution. This included two, 102.5 metre working height Wumag Palfinger WT1000 platforms brought in from McNallys in Ireland and Riwal in Holland.

As well as the ‘world leading’ working height, it was the 36 metre outreach that was the main advantage for the inspection and repair work coupled with its good ‘up and over’ capability and basket jib.
