JLG does military service
JLG has been awarded a two-year contract by the US Marine Corps for the refurbishing of its Tier 1 telehandler fleet, comprising 132 Millennia Military Vehicles (MMV). The units returned to the US earlier in the year, after being deployed to Iraq in April 2002, as part of the US’ war effort in the country.
JLG will ship the new Tier 2 emission compliant MMV models to the US Marine Corps over the next two year. The company said that it will also soon be entering into negotiations with the US Army for a three-year sole source contract for the reconditioning of an estimated 350 All-Terrain Lifter Army System ("ATLAS") vehicles and 350 of its predecessor models. Returning from Southwest Asia, the ATLAS and its predecessor models will be reconditioned to bring them up to current standards.
“There is a growing demand for reconditioning and re-manufacturing military access equipment - a niche market which provides good growth potential,” said David Peacock, director, military programs at JLG. “The new military activities will be placed in a purpose-built re-manufacturing facility recently acquired from NES, which is adjacent to our existing services operations in McConnellsburg.”
