Towne’s ‘day job’ is with the Towne group of companies, the family business that he joined in 1976 from the Merchant Navy. The company at that time comprised C.E.A. Towne (Ship Riggers) and Fleetwood Trawler Supply.

He developed the lifting equipment manufacturing and supply side of the Towne group throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and was appointed to the LEEA board in 2004.

The appointment was announced at the LEEA’s Annual General Meeting, held in Chester in late November.

Speaking of his new role, Towne said: “I’m delighted to lead the team in fully developing LEEA as the international trade association committed to enhancing the skills and training of all those involved in the lifting industry.”
