Van mount rally

Two brothers from Scotland have entered the 10,000-mile Mongol Rally in a van mounted aerial lift.

Ben Robertson, 52 and younger brother Trevor, 44, will set out with around 300 other vehicles from Goodwood, Sussex next July. The two from Blairgowrie and Meigle, will compete as ‘The Bald Avengers’ for obvious reasons.

Trevor Robertson said:” The organisers had a list of vehicles they would like entrants to use... We thought we'd choose the most obscure one."

The rally will take around six weeks to cover the 10,000 miles to the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator. The two brothers plan to leave the lift behind for locals to use.

"We liked the idea of a rally to Mongolia in a vehicle which is totally unsuitable for the trip. It also allows us to carry more things. We're hoping that we can fill up the van with medical supplies and other goods they don't have in Mongolia" Added Trevor.

The two are raising money for a number of charities, including the Christina Noble Children's Foundation, Cash4Kids and Tayside Mountain Rescue.
