Pallet and tele-fork

A reader in the UK spotted a man using a telehandler and pallet to work at height on a steel erection job in Skegness.

Spotted on a site on the seafront in Skegness, Lincolnshire, the man has been lifted on a wooden pallet to a height of approximately seven metres by a Manitou telehandler to work on the steel work. He is seen kneeing on the pallet with nothing to stop him falling should he lose balance or the pallet slip.

In our readers own words: “This picture was taken by an operative working on a nearby site, clearly showing the unsafe erection of a steel frame. Apparently the entire structure had been built like this, what is also strange is there is no driver in the telehandler.”

Vertikal Comment

It is mind boggling that contractors carrying out high profile job such as this still resort to such ridiculous methods. It is not even cost effective tying up an expensive telehandler and two people, on a job that needs a small boom lift and one man. There is still much to do.

Definitely one for our Death Wish series.

Bad choices like this necessitate higher standards and more training for every person involved in the choices.

Emperors new clothes
Ah! The seafront at Skegness, it looks just as I remember it, is he building another fish & chip shop? I hope he leaves the pallet behind as it would be useful on the beach as a windbreak during the day and a bonfire to keep warm at night. Roll on to another perfect English summer.
