Persistence pays

Orion Access of Erith, Kent, in the UK, has purchased its first Multitel truck mounted lift, a 27 metre MX270.

The order is of particular significance to Melvyn Else, managing director of Access Industries, the UK distributor for Multitel. He has been trying to sell the company on Multitel lifts ever since it entered the aerial lift market in 1998.

Else summed up the 12 years of persistence when he said: “I first demonstrated a Multitel truck mount to Paul Chalk (Orion’s owner) in 1998, some three months after he had bought his first truck mounted platform. While Orion Access has been close to ordering a Multitel over the years it has taken me to 2010 to finally close a sale”.

Chalk added: “This might be our first Multitel but I do not think it will be our last. The Multitel range today includes some very interesting and quite price competitive products”.

The MX range of twin aluminium telescopic boomed articulated lifts has proven to be highly popular since the MX20 was introduced around five year ago. The MX270, the largest model in the range, is mounted to a 5.6 tonne Nissan Atleon for Italy where a maximum six tonne GVW exists for self-drive rentals.

Throughout the rest of Europe it is more frequently mounted on a 7.5 tonne truck chassis, with the Mitsubishi Canter being the vehicle of choice for Multitel due to its narrow overall width.

Else – always the salesman adds: “the MX270 is the same width in transit as our competitor’s 20 metre models on 3.5 tonne chassis, where they have A-frame outriggers. Indeed even with outriggers extended the MX 270 is no wider than these units. Furthermore the MX 270 will be available in the new year with an in-line outriggers option.”
