Manitowoc launches new truck crane for Russia

Manitowoc has launched the new Grove GBT35 at CTT 2011 in Moscow, Russia. The locally-assembled truck crane has a 35 tonne capacity and a 39 metre five section full-power boom which, says the company, is three metres longer than its nearest competitor and eight metres longer than most cranes in this class.

Guillaume Van Hoeck, EMEA business manager for truck cranes at Manitowoc, said Grove focused on three factors for crane design. “Cranes in this capacity class are designed for reliability, easy operation and productivity,” he said. “We looked at each key factor and manufactured a crane that sets the benchmark in Russia.”

Manitowoc introduced the Grove GBT35 at CTT 2011 in Moscow, Russia.

Manitowoc launched the crane in conjunction with one of its Russian dealers, Global Cranes which will assemble and sell the crane for Manitowoc in the Moscow area. The GBT35 combines a Grove superstructure with a locally-built Volvo truck carrier chosen to ensure customers get Volvo’s trademark quality as well as access to the best parts and service. The truck uses standard tyres and does not require a special permit to travel on Russian highways.

The GBT35 has a 58 metre maximum tip height with jib extensions and uses Grove’s Easy Glide Boom Wear Pads which claim to reduce boom chatter and vibration for smoother crane operation.

Oleg Sokolov, Manitowoc’s sales manager for mobile cranes in Russia, said the company worked hard to manufacture a crane appropriate for the region.
“Russia is one of the world’s largest truck crane markets and customers have a strong opinion about what these cranes should offer,” he said. “We worked hard, studied the market and talked with customers about their needs.”

As with all Manitowoc cranes, engineers equipped the GBT35 with a number of features for operator comfort. The PAT load moment indicator makes it easy for the operator to always be aware of the load and the ergonomic cab has large glass windows for enhanced visibility. The operator can also control the swing speed of the crane by adjusting a dial on the swing motor brake release valve to slow down or increase speed.
