New Unic cranes to launch at Vertikal Days

GGR Unic will launch a very special line of new spider cranes at next week’s Vertikal Days in the UK.

The new models are all 1:40 scale models made from Lego building blocks. The sets of Lego spider cranes, are thought to be unique to the crane and toy industry alike, they were commissioned by GGR, the Unic master distributor for Europe.

The range includes five different models from the real Unic range, with a series of limited edition Lego kits available for those enthusiasts looking to build their own Unic crane. All five models will make their debut on the GGR stand at Vertikal Days in Haydock Park next week.

The five model Lego-Unic range

Designed and produced by a certified Lego professional, great attention to detail was spent on making each of the cranes as accurate as possible while retaining the fun element that Lego is all about. First to be produced was the smallest Unic URW-095 crane which is made from 120 parts, has a 130mm extendable boom and flexible outriggers which can be folded into the stowed position. Sharing the same boom is the URW-295 which also features an on-board control panel and is made from 130 parts. Please register to see all images

The larger capacity cranes, starting with the URW-376, have a moveable working tread, operator’s seat and lever control panel. The URW-376 comes in 250 parts and has a 230mm boom, whilst the URW-506 crane boasts a 300mm extendable boom and on-board Safe Load Indicator control panel. The biggest model in the range, the URW-706 is made from over 750 pieces and boasts an impressive 530mm telescopic boom.

Just like their life-size counterparts, all of the Unic LEGO models include a rope and hook with full operational capability. Combining the functionality with a need to elegantly pack a lot of robust moving parts into a compact unit proved to be the most challenging aspect of the design.

GGR chief executive Graeme Riley said: “We wanted to create something fresh and fun in the crane industry that boosts everyone’s spirits following the challenges over the past couple of years. We envisage these kits becoming highly coveted by adults and children alike”.
