Manitou 360 for Scottish port
Scottish Port Edgar Marina, located on the Firth of Forth, has taken delivery of a 360 degree Manitou MRT 2150+ Privilege telehandler.
The five tonne/20.6 metre MRT 2150+ can take 2.5 tonnes to its maximum height and handle 600kgs at its maximum horizontal reach of 18.1 metres. Supplied with wireless remote controls, the MRT 2150 can also be fitted with a winch, bucket and an aerial work platform. It will be used to lift boats in and out of the Firth for storage or transport, a job previously carried out by an old five tonne Cowans Sheldon crane, which was installed at the end of the pier in 1964.
Port Edgar Marina director Russell Aitken, said: “The main benefit of having the Manitou on site is the flexibility of being able to work anywhere on site. We can now carry out the lift at a more sheltered part of the pier, reducing the number of days normally affected by the wind due to the fixed crane being exposed at the end of the pier. The wireless remote control feature also means we have been able to reduce the staffing levels for a number of tasks, giving a more flexible way of offering a full service to the customer.”

Fitted with its aerial work platform attachment, the MRT2150 offers a 22.2 metre working height with 1,000kg platform capacity. At its maximum outreach of 15 metres its platform capacity is reduced to 365kg.
Aitken added: “With this attachment we can now carry out work to the top of yacht masts without having to take the mast off the boats, saving both the company and the customer valuable time. We have also been using it for maintenance to the sheds and high level lighting on site where we would normally have to hire in a cherry picker to carry out the work.”
