Skyjack launches 86ft
Skyjack formally launched its new 82/86ft telescopic boom lifts, the SJ86TJ and SJ82T at The Rental Show in New Orleans this week.
The new booms, one with jib and one without, employ a mechanically rising boom support linkage similar that that used on most other machines in the sector, which moves the machine’s centre of gravity forward as the boom is elevated, in order to improve forward reach and maintain good stability, without adding more weight. The SJ86TJ weighs 17,150kg.

The new machines feature dual platform capacity ratings of 454/227kg on the SJ82T and 341/227kg on the SJ86TJ. The unit defaults to the higher capacity but then stops when it reaches the maximum outreach possible with the higher capacity, requiring the operator to confirm the lower or higher weight in the platform. In Europe this will have to be integrated into the platform overload system.
Most of the rest of the machine is common in principle with the company’s other larger boom lifts, including 4x4 axle type drive, and relay based control system.
More on how the new unit stacks up against the competition in the March issue of Cranes & Access.
