Jan Liebherr, president of the administrative board of Liebherr International, has received France's highest civilian accolade, the Legion of Honour. It was presented by French president Emmanuel Macron at a ceremony at the Elysée Palace in Paris.

The Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur has been awarded in recognition of Liebherr's contribution to French industry, particularly in Alsace and Occitania regions where the company employs more than 4,000 people.

The company's presence in France dates back to 1961 when founder Hans Liebherr established Liebherr-France in Colmar. The facility, which began producing crawler excavators, now serves as the group's mining equipment centre, developing and manufacturing large excavators for global consumption. The Colmar area operations alone employ around 3,000 people.

Liebherr has recently acquired a 47 hectare/116 acre site in Nambsheim, Alsace, for future expansion. The group also operates facilities in Toulouse, Campsas and Montauban, where it manufactures air management systems for aircraft.
