The new crane features two boom options, a 54 metre and 80 metre, both of which feature the company’s ‘Megaform’ design with interchangeable telescopic sections. A range of lattice extensions are available, while a107 metre luffing jib is said to be quicker to rig, and features a single back mast, it will normally be matched with the self-rigging MegaWingLift super lift system, capacity-enhancing system. Maximum counterweight is 175 tonnes the slabs of which are interchangeable with the GMK6400, GMK6400-1, and GMK6450-1 models.
It also features Manitowoc’s Variable Position Counterweight (VPC) technology, allowing the operator to adjust the counterweight position to boost lifting capacity without requiring additional counterweight.
A choice of 54 or 80m booms are available
The new crane has several travel configurations, depending on local regulations. Five of the eight axles are driven, and two axle groupings area available, one optimised for road travel and the other for tough jobsite conditions. A removable rear outrigger box, and an adaptive electronic braking system also help with meeting road regulations.
Operators will benefit from the next-generation CCS 2.0 crane control system and its Connect telematics is fully integrated into the new cranes systems.
Product management vice president Andreas Cremer said: “We are incredibly proud to introduce the GMK8700, a testament to the engineering and manufacturing excellence of our team in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. This landmark model underscores our commitment to delivering high-performance solutions that help customers achieve greater return on invested capital.”
