US maritime company Tradepoint Atlantic has ordered seven Liebherr ship-to-shore (STS) cranes for the Sparrows Point Container Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland.
The cranes will feature an outreach of 70 metres, a back reach of 25 metres and have a lift height of 51 metres, aimed at servicing the widest vessels currently in operation, while allowing for further increases in ship size. The order brings the total number of Liebherr STS cranes sold in the USA since 2020 to 27.

The cranes will also support the 168 acre terminal redevelopment at the former Bethlehem Steel works, which is expected - according to the Tradepoint Atlantic - to increase the Port of Baltimore’s container handling capacity by around 70 percent. The Sparrows Point development is also described as one of the largest privately financed container terminal projects in the United States, with around $1.2 billion invested.
Declan O'Sullivan, Liebherr sales managing director for container cranes said: “This is a landmark project, both for our customer and for Liebherr. It reflects the scale of investment and ambition behind Sparrows Point and reinforces Liebherr’s ability to deliver high performance crane solutions for some of the most significant terminal developments underway globally.”
