Wayland Hicks resigns
Wayland Hicks, vice chairman of United Rentals, the world’s largest rental company is to resign, leaving the business at the end of February.
At the same time the company has appointed three new directors, José Alvarez, Bobby Griffin and Filippo Passerini.
Hicks stepped down as chief executive of United in June 2007 after three and a half years at the helm, prior to that he served as chief operating officer.
Jenne Britell, Uinted’s chairman said: “The board and I greatly appreciate Wayland’s many contributions over his more than 10 years of service to United Rentals, first as a senior executive and then as a valued member of the board. Wayland has worked tirelessly to advance our company, to the great benefit of all our stakeholders.”
Alvarez is joining the faculty of the Harvard Business School next week, he was previously executive vice president of global business development for Royal Ahold, the Dutch based international food retailer.
Griffin has spent over 25 years in the transportation logistics industry, including 20 years with Ryder Systems where he was president of international operations.
Passerini is president of Procter & Gamble’s Global Business Services (GBS) organisation and chief information officer. Passerini joined P&G in 1981 and has held management positions in the U.K., Greece, Italy, the U.S.A, South America and Turkey.
