Terex Cranes sale completes

The sale of the Terex Crane division to tower crane manufacturer Raimondi /KBW Holding has completed.
Announced in early September, the deal includes the two Terex Crane production facilities in Italy – the Tower Cranes plant in Fontanafredda, and the Rough Terrain facility in Crespellano. It also includes the Terex North America Cranes service and support operation in Wilmington, North Carolina.

It does not include Franna, which is part of Terex’s Materials Processing division.

Terex chief executive Simon Meester said: "For Terex, this move aligns with our strategic focus on reducing cyclicality and accelerating the company's growth. At the same time, we believe these Italian cranes businesses will strategically benefit from becoming part of Raimondi. We thank our cranes team members for their contributions to Terex and the industry, and we wish them great success in the years ahead."

Vertikal Comment

This deal has sailed through the regulatory process more quickly than many expected. It is potentially a good move for Terex Cranes employees, Raimondi and its owner UAE based KBW Holding are no fools and are focused on the longer term. The biggest challenge is what to do with the Rough Terrain business, but two of the better international markets are the Middle East and Italy, where the group has some clear advantages.

The odd thing – once again – is that Terex held back part of its crane business from a sale. It is retaining Franna, which, while it has been doing well lately, building good momentum, it hardly fits with a materials process business, no matter what spin you put on it.
Given the recent announcement of Terex’s merger with/takeover of Rev and intention to dispose of Genie, it’s hard to see why it makes sense to hold on to Franna?

Surely Franna would have been of interest to KBW?
